Daily game drives through the reserve are a firm favourite among guests. Explore the reserve with one of our knowledgeable guides at the helm and find out all about the unique flora and fauna and the ongoing conservation efforts at Melozhori. Melozhori is home to a variety of different game, including eland, buffalo, kudu, giraffe, sable antelope, zebra, bontebok and waterbuck. It also boasts an impressive array of birds, so make sure to keep an eye out for your favourite feathered local species. Common sightings include black harriers, blue cranes, martial eagles, white breasted cormorants and ostriches.

Rates for the Cottage and the Eco-Pods include one game drive per 2 night stay. Please note, self-drive safaris are not permitted at Melozhori, however, you are welcome to explore the reserve in many other ways, included but not limited to:

As Melozhori Game Reserve is predator free, we encourage guests to explore the reserve by foot. There are a number of dirt roads traversing Melozhori, but you are welcome to hike off-road as well, just make sure to bring along your hat and a bottle of water. We also suggest bringing along your cellphone to snap photos and in case of emergencies.

Covering more than 2,300 hectares of succulent Karoo, renosterveld and fynbos terrain, our reserve is a mountain-bikers’ paradise. Given that Melozhori is located just 2 hours from Cape Town, it’s the ideal spot for a weekend of exploring uncharted trails. We have hosted a number of prestigious mountain biking events over the past few years including the Cape Epic. We can also arrange for bicycles to be hired during your stay, simply get in touch with the team to arrange this.

Stargazing at Melozhori is simply unforgettable! Thanks to the lack of light pollution, we enjoy spectacularly clear constellations. It may require coffee and determination but waiting up (or waking up) to see the Milky Way in the early hours of the morning is a particularly special experience.

While you’ll never be short of things to do during your stay, if you’re looking for a more leisurely escape in the bush we suggest relaxing by the pool with a good book, easing into the hot tub or simply game viewing from the comfort of your private patio or deck.
